Moisturizing DIY pH-Balanced Shampoo

Free from castile soap and baking soda, it uses coconut milk, honey, and balancing oils to cleanse without disrupting your scalp’s natural pH. Perfect for sensitive skin and those transitioning away from store-bought shampoos.
Equipment
- 1 Mixing bowl
- 1 Whisk
- Measuring spoons
- 1 Glass jar or bottle for storage
- 1 Ice cube tray (optional, for freezing)
Ingredients
- 1 can full-fat coconut milk (13.5 oz can) pH 6.1–7.0
- 2 tablespoons raw honey pH ~3.9
- 1 teaspoon jojoba oil pH ~4.2
- 1 teaspoon castor oil pH ~4.5–5.0
- 2 tablespoons raw apple cider vinegar pH ~3.1
- 1 teaspoon essential oils of choice optional – lavender, rosemary, peppermint, etc.
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together all ingredients until smooth.
- Transfer to a container (shake well before each use).
- To use: Massage a small amount onto your scalp, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
- If your hair is oily, follow with an apple cider vinegar rinse (¼ cup ACV + ¼ cup water).
- Adjust oils based on hair type (reduce if hair is fine/oily).

- Shake well before each use. Separation is normal!
- Start with 1½ to 2 teaspoons per wash—a little goes a long way.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or freeze in cubes for long-term use (up to 3 months).
- If your hair is very oily or fine, reduce or omit the jojoba and castor oils.
- Sensitive scalp? Skip the essential oils.
