DeFunkifying Deodorant - Pronounce Skincare 1200 x 1200

DeFunkifying DIY Deodorant (No Baking Soda)

This DeFunkifying DIY deodorant is a baking soda–free, oil-based deodorant designed to support freshness and provide comfortable daily wear for some people. It uses a blend of plant-based oils, wax, and powders to create a smooth, creamy texture that applies easily and dries down without blocking sweat.
This recipe is not an antiperspirant and is shared for educational purposes. Individual results may vary based on body chemistry, activity level, and personal preference.

Equipment

  • 1 Double-boiler – For me this is a pot with shallow water and a glass bowl or large glass Pyrex measuring cup
  • 2 Deodorant Containers - Or glass jars you can scoop from
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Digital Scale

Ingredients

  • 30 g Coconut Oil
  • 20 g Shea Butter
  • 20 g Beeswax
  • 22.5 g Tamanu Oil
  • 22.5 g Neem Oil
  • 3 g Almond Oil
  • 10-15 drops Vitamin E
  • Essential Oils – 60 total drops: 30 drops frankincense, 20 drops bergamot, 10 drops patchouli - Adjust how you like!
  • 25 g Arrowroot Powder
  • 15 g Diatomaceous Earth – Food-grade 100% DE
  • 7.5 g Kaolin Clay – White clay is another name for this staple in my home

Instructions

  • Using an accurate digital scale, measure all ingredients (EXCEPT the 3 powder ingredients, EOs, & vitamin E) into the upper part of your double-boiler.
  • Melt on low heat over bottom part of double-boiler (for me, a pot with shallow water) until everything is melted (the beeswax will be the last thing to melt)
  • Turn off heat and allow to cool for a few minutes
  • Add arrowroot, diatomaceous Earth, kaolin clay, Vit E, and EOs; whisk vigorously to fully combine…and then whisk some more
  • Pour into containers and place somewhere safe to set up (which actually doesn’t take very long)
  • Scoop down on sides as necessary with spatula and continue to pour until all containers are full.
  • This will fill just over 2 regular sized deodorant tubes.
