Certified Organic Slippery Elm Bark Summary

Slippery Elm Bark can reach a height of 60 feet…impressive! The inner bark of the branches is collected in spring for medicinal use, which is what we offer here with our slippery elm bark. It can be added to room temperature water and it then has a slippery consistency (hence the name).

Slippery Elm Bark Body Uses

With slippery elm bark you can make poultices, and even tea. You can make a natural bandage out of wet slippery elm bark, which is what Native Americans did, allowing the bandage to dry on wounds.

Because of its soothing (and slippery!) nature, you can find several ways people often use slippery elm bark to soothe sore throats, coughs, diarrhea, constipation, hemorrhoids, and even IBS.

Slippery Elm Bark As Food

Many Native American tribes wrapped slippery elm around food in order to store it and to prevent food spoilage. Slippery elm has also been a staple food during famine, by making porridge.

Precautions: According to Mountain Rose Herbs1, “Slippery Elm should be taken with at least 250mL (8 oz) of liquid. Other drugs should be taken 1 hour prior to or several hours after consumption of slippery elm. The mucilage may slow the absorption of orally administered drugs.” We recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications.
